One of the most annoying things is someone going through your photos on your smartphone and viewing personal photos. How to hide photos on iPhone? Let’s find out.
However, this whole awkward episode can be avoided if you learn how to hide your photos on an iPhone.
There are a couple of ways to hide photos on your iPhone:
1. Create a secret album in Photos.
2. Move photos to password-protected notes in the Notes app,
3. Hide photos in text messages.
Here’s are the steps for each of these 3 methods:
Method 1: Hide Photos on iPhone in the Photos App
In the Photos app on your iPhone, you can add selected photos to a hidden album. Before iOS 14, this album was just labeled “Hidden Album” alongside all of your other albums in Photos, which wasn’t exactly a discreet solution. You may now disable the Photos app’s ability even to display your secret album from the Settings.
To begin, decide which photos you want to hide:
Step 1:
Open Photos And select the image you want to hide. You can also select multiple images at once.
Step 2:
Tap on “Share” at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Step 3:
Scroll down to the “Hide” option besides a symbol of a crossed-out eye from the menu at the bottom.
Step 4:
To confirm, tap “Hide Photo” (or Photos) on the pop-up.
The photos will be transferred from your main album to a folder called “Hidden.”
Go to “Photos > Albums > Hidden” to find them.
However, having an album named “Hidden” is not exactly serving the purpose. Therefore, here are the steps to further hide the hidden album.

How to Hide the Hidden Album in Photos
After you’ve moved photos to the hidden album, you may hide them from being visible in Photos. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1:
On your iPhone, go to “Settings > Photos.”
Step 2:
Scroll down to the “Hidden Album” option and toggle it off.
The hidden album will no longer appear in the Photos.
However, you can flip the “Hidden Album” toggle back on to unhide the album.
Method 2: Lock Photos on your iPhone in the Notes App
If you’d rather keep your photos out of the Photos app entirely, you can use the Notes app to do so. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1:
To protect an image, first, open it and then tap the “Share” icon.
Step 2:
Select “Notes” from the share menu. The image will display in a Notes draft. Select a Notes folder to save it to, then tap “Save” in the upper-right corner.
Step 3:
Open “Notes” and choose the note containing the image.
Step 4:
In the top-right corner of the note, tap the three dots.
Step 5:
Now, select ‘Lock’ from the pop-up menu.
Step 6:
Then input a password, double-check it, and make a hint in case you forget it. In the upper-right corner, tap “Done.” If you’ve ever locked a note before, Notes will simply prompt you for the password you’ve previously used.
Step 7:
In the top-right corner of your note, a lock will now appear. To lock the note, tap the lock icon, and the note will vanish, with the statement “This note is locked.”. Any time you want to view the note, tap “View Note” and enter your password. When you’re done seeing the note, hit the lock icon once more to close the lock.
Step 8:
Finally, ensure that the original image is deleted from the Photos app, leaving it locked in the Notes app.
Coming to the third method…
Method 3: Hide Photos in Texts on your iPhone
If you don’t want someone to find a photo in the Photos app and you’re worried they’ll look in Notes, text yourself the photo or note, and then erase it from your photos.
Your image will be accessible but difficult for others to find unless someone snoops through your texts.
Summing Up
You may have images on your iPhone that you don’t want to remove immediately, but you also don’t want them to show up in your Photo Library for whatever reason (privacy). Using the three simple ways outlined above, you can learn how to hide photos on an iPhone.
