How to Remove Bubbles from a Screen Protector?

How to Remove Bubbles from a Screen Protector

If you have ever tried to remove bubbles from your screen protector, you must know what an impossible task it is!

They may emerge beneath the surface of the screen protector if it is applied incorrectly or the screen isn’t completely leveled.

In any case, the presence of bubbles in your screen protector is unattractive and distracting. The worst part is that you can’t simply remove the bubbles from the middle of a screen protector once it has been applied unless you take it off and put it back on.

However, there are ways in which you can remove air bubbles without having to remove and reapply the screen protector.

This guide will teach you how to remove bubbles from a screen protector in 2 ways:

1. Removing and putting the screen protector back on.

2. Without removing the screen protector.

So let us take you through the steps of both methods.

Method 1: Putting the Screen Protector Back On

To get rid of bubbles in the middle of the screen, reapplying the screen protector is the best move.

Step 1: Removing the Screen Protector

Slide the sharp edge of a credit card (or something similar with sharp edges) underneath one of the screen protector’s corners with care. A razor blade can also be used, but be careful not to injure yourself or harm the screen. It should be simple to pry the screen protector away from the screen once you’ve lifted the corner.

However, if you try to bend your screen protector to get it to rise, you may risk damaging it.

Carefully lift one corner of the screen protector with any sharp, thin object

Step 2: Cleaning the Screen

Dust and fuzz on your screen might cause air bubbles beneath the protector by making the surface uneven. To remove any dust or lint, dampen the corner of a microfiber cleaning cloth (if you don’t have one for screens, try one for eyeglasses) with rubbing alcohol and wipe it across your device’s screen. After removing the particles, dry the screen completely using the dry end of the cleaning cloth.

Make sure you’re in a clean, dust-free area and that you’ve washed your hands. Any debris, dust, or grease on your hands can transfer to the screen or the screen protector’s bottom side.

Clean the screen with the help of a microfibre cleaning cloth

Using Scotch tape, remove any excess dust. Place a strip of scotch tape across your screen and lightly press down to adhere to it. Slowly pull the tape off the screen to pick up smaller pieces of dust or lint. To avoid missing a place, work your way across the screen, slightly overlapping the area you’ve already cleaned.

Clean off the remaining dust particles with scotch tape

Step 4: Reapplying the Screen Protector

Now, it’s time to put the screen protector back on. To avoid a crooked installation, align the edges of your screen protector with the edges of your device. Set one side of the screen protector against the screen and slowly press it down into place after you’re satisfied with how it looks. The screen protector’s adhesive on the back will start attaching to the screen right away.

Reapply the screen protector carefully

Step 5: Removing Air Bubbles

Once your screen protector has adhered to the screen, press down in the center of the screen with your finger or the edge of a credit card. To propel air bubbles outward, push from the center of your screen to the edges. Work your way around the screen until all of the air bubbles are gone.

Rub your finger or a credit card across the screen protector's surface

However, if the air bubbles are located near the edges, you can remove them without taking off the screen protector.

Method 2: Using Oil to Remove Air Bubbles around the Edges

You can remove air bubbles around the edges of a glass screen protector with oil. Here’s how:

Step 1:

Try olive, vegetable, or another translucent cooking oil if the air bubbles are close to the screen protector’s margins. Simply wet the end of a cotton swab, pour 1–2 tsp (4.9–9.9 ml) of the oil into a small dish. Apply a tiny amount of oil to the cotton swab, but not so much that it drips.

Make sure you don’t get any oil inside the device, and your application is as precise as possible.

Step 2:

Work along the edges of the screen protector, shaking off any excess oil with your cotton swab. Apply a tiny amount of the oil to the edges of your screen protector so it can go below it. Air bubbles will be smoothed out by the oil, resulting in a flawless seal.

If the air bubbles don’t vanish after applying the oil, gently lift the edge of your screen protector with your fingernail or a razor blade to allow the oil to enter.

Rub the cotton swab along the edges to remove the bubbles

Step 3:

Squeeze your screen protector against the screen until there are no air bubbles around the edge, ensuring that it sticks firmly. Dry the edges surrounding your screen protector with a paper towel and wipe any leftover oil pushed out.

Apply pressure to the screen protector’s edges to see if any oil leaks out from underneath and remove it with a lint-free cloth.

Press the screen protector and wipe away any oil

Final Words

Screen protectors protect your screen from scratches, but bubbles can form underneath them if not applied properly. The appearance of bubbles in your screen protector is unsightly and distracting. Whether the bubbles are in the middle of the screen or on the edges, the above guide contains two easy methods to remove bubbles from a screen protector.
